1st Snowstorm of the Winter, December 6th 2009

A sneaky little storm settled over us during the night … and we’re greeted this morning with a 6-inch blanket of fluffy wet snow. It is heavy shoveling … but it looks so beautiful and Christmas-like. Earlier … it was quite windy. As I began shoveling my back steps and was almost pushed over by a sudden gust … my neighbour shouted “You need to fill your pockets with rocks !”

While Buddy … my energy-ball, mongrel … played in the wet snow … I dug up the remaining carrots and harvested dinosaur kale from my garden. The kale is extra sweet and delicious … now that it’s been kissed by frost and snow. What a wonderful green smoothie I enjoyed for breakfast. Here are a few photos of my surroundings this morning … my VW before snow removal :

Some remaining kale plants in my backyard:

Here is the way my fresh greens and veggies looked, after a good washing :

It is definitely time to begin my indoor garden !

Before I go … I will show one of my ‘practice’ runs of a suitable … nutritious and tasty Christmas dinner main course … this was made a few weeks ago and tasted awesome ! (Recipe adapted from Nomi Shannon’s “Raw Gourmet” book)

Enjoy this ‘snow day’
