Art Trip to Lunenburg

I recently attended a 5-day art workshop in Lunenburg. The instructor was Alvaro Castagnet. My friend, Bern and I rented a chalet on the edge of the town for a week … so we enjoyed a couple of extra days to relax and explore. The workshop was mostly “en plein aire” and we saw some amazing nooks and crannies of the town … mostly street scenes. Lunenburg is a charming sea coast town that is a World Heritage Site. It has unique architecture and beautiful gardens. It is reminiscent of some ancient European harbour towns and often I had to remind myself that I was actually in Nova Scotia.

Here are a few photos taken in front our chalet.

I love the view with the yellow house in the distance. It seemed that almost everywhere you could view some part of the ocean … so inspiring and beautiful.

These next photos are ones I took on morning or evening walks … all within a kilometre or two from the chalet. On these short jaunts … up and down hills mostly … I found a nice variety of fresh wild greens to enhance the salads and smoothies I created (of course I had packed my blender in my suitcase)

This is a quaint side porch with clapboards and flowers

Next is a sailboat leaving Lunenburg for open sea. This is a view from a side road near the chalet … one of my favourite spots to sketch.

Moving a few feet and I found these lovely views of the Lunenburg waterfront.

When I turned slightly to the right I saw this view of the road in front of me and some majestic hillside homes.

At the foot of the road by turning right and walking a few blocks I found these street scenes to sketch … possible future paintings.

I really enjoyed this home at 333 Blue Rocks Road … so much that an intended 5-minute sketch took me 1/2 hour to complete … and another 20 minutes talking to the owners.

I will say more about the workshop and show more photos on another day … in another article.
